The library at Pathfinder Comprehensive School is a vital resource center that plays an essential role in supporting the academic mission of the school. We believe that access to books and information is fundamental to quality education, and our library is designed to foster a culture of reading, research, and intellectual curiosity among our students.
About Our Library
The Pathfinder Comprehensive School Library is a well-organized and welcoming space where students can access a wide range of learning materials. The library serves as a quiet and focused environment for reading, studying, researching, and completing assignments.
Our library collection includes:
- Textbooks: Comprehensive textbooks covering all subjects offered in our General and Commercial Education streams, from Form 1 to Upper Sixth.
- Reference Materials: Encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, almanacs, and other reference works for in-depth research and study.
- Novels and Literature: A diverse collection of African and world literature, including novels, short story collections, poetry anthologies, and drama texts prescribed for GCE English Literature.
- Past GCE Examination Papers: A collection of past GCE Ordinary Level and Advanced Level papers to help students prepare effectively for their examinations.
- Newspapers, Magazines, and Periodicals: Current publications to keep students informed about local and world events and to encourage reading beyond academic texts.
- Educational Charts and Visual Aids: Maps, scientific charts, historical timelines, and other visual learning tools.
Library Facilities
- Reading Area: A spacious and well-lit reading area with tables and chairs for individual and group study.
- Book Shelves: Organized shelving system for easy location and access to books and materials.
- Librarian’s Desk: Staffed by a dedicated librarian who assists students in finding materials and developing good research habits.
- Quiet Study Zone: A designated area for silent study and individual reading.
Library Services
The library provides the following services to students and staff:
- Book Lending: Students may borrow books for a specified period, subject to the library lending policy.
- Reference Services: Students can use reference materials within the library for research and study purposes.
- Reading Guidance: The librarian provides guidance to students on selecting appropriate reading materials based on their level and interests.
- Study Support: The library serves as a venue for supervised study periods, group discussions, and academic consultations.
- Orientation for New Students: At the beginning of each academic year, new students receive a library orientation session to familiarize them with the library’s resources, layout, and rules.
Library Rules and Regulations
To ensure that the library remains a productive and enjoyable space for all users, the following rules must be observed:
- Silence must be maintained at all times. The library is a quiet zone. Talking, whispering loudly, or making noise is not permitted.
- Students must present their student ID card to access the library and to borrow books.
- All bags, food, and drinks must be left outside the library. Food and beverages are strictly prohibited inside the library.
- Students must sign the library register upon entering and leaving the library.
- Books must be handled with care. Tearing pages, writing in books, folding corners, or defacing library materials in any way is a punishable offense.
- Borrowed books must be returned on or before the due date. Late returns will attract a fine as determined by the library policy.
- Lost or damaged books must be replaced. Students who lose or damage library books will be required to replace the book or pay the cost of replacement.
- Reference materials (encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and past papers) are for use within the library only and may not be borrowed.
- Students must return books to the librarian’s desk after use. Do not attempt to re-shelve books yourself.
- The library furniture must not be moved or rearranged without permission from the librarian.
- Mobile phones and electronic devices are not permitted in the library unless authorized for educational purposes.
- Students must respect other library users and maintain a conducive environment for reading and study.
- The library operates during designated hours. Students must adhere to the library’s opening and closing times as posted at the library entrance.

Note: Library hours may be extended during examination periods. Special arrangements will be communicated by the school administration.
Our Commitment to Growing the Library
Pathfinder Comprehensive School is committed to continuously expanding and improving our library. Our plans include:
- Increasing the number and variety of books in our collection.
- Introducing computer stations with internet access for digital research (as resources allow).
- Subscribing to additional educational journals and periodicals.
- Establishing a book donation programme and partnerships with organizations that support school libraries in Cameroon.
- Creating a dedicated reading corner for junior students (Forms 1–3) to cultivate the reading habit from an early age.
